My first Sketchador drawing IS A GO! I’ll be posting the breakdowns here on THIS blog, but you can check out the actual Sketchador site to look at my drawings BEFORE it’s up here.

I’m still experimenting, trying to figure out the best way to color stuff in Photoshop. For this I cel-shaded the 2006 “chamba way”. Why not the 2008 or 2010 chamba way, you ask? Because I don’t understand what the heck is going on in those PSD files…

breakdown1
Cleaned lineart! This was originally 10x messier.

breakdown2
Base colors. Made them a little on the dark side, knowing I’ll have to highlight them later.

breakdown3
Shadow. Cooool warm gradient shade, set to Multiply. (Red to contrast with blue.)

breakdown4
Highlights. ON TOP of lineart layer, set to Overlay.

breakdown5
Background gradient and texture. Made sure the lightest part of the gradient was where the implied light source was. Used some papyrus texture set to Overlay to match the theme of the piece.

The words were added using “Tempus Sans ITC” font and I got the final piece shown above! I’m happy with how it turned out.

P.S.: From now on, clicking on the clickable pictures of these posts WON’T pop up a mini window, but instead take you to the appropriate Flickr page. Dinkin’ flicka!
