Skynet Sh*t

A sci-fi-esque theory I spat out during an AIM chat with James.

Kevin Lam
one of these days we’re gonna reach a point when knowledge will become trivial
this is a theory im coming up with RIGHT NOW
it’ll be a combination of two things

James Lien
wat

Kevin Lam
one, a device that transmits images into your brain
vision is nothing more than light entering your eyes and your brain interpreting the light
so the device will be able to activate certain brain neurons to display any image you want
two, a device that knows what you’re thinking

Kevin Lam
right now we’re just at the cusp of its existence, with such things as auto-correct on smart phones and google knowing what you want to search for

James Lien
wat
zzzzzz

Kevin Lam
it’ll–… fine i’ll go tell someone who cares

James Lien
OH HAHAHA
i meant i dont get it

Kevin Lam
okay then i’ll continue

James Lien
is this a paper

Kevin Lam
we’ll then have a device that keeps track of who you are as a person, it’ll know your goals, your every move, so it’ll determine your intentions
so combine those two things
letsay you want to know how lincoln was shot or something
you don’t need the learned knowledge for that
you just need the second device to understand your desire to know about lincoln
then the first device can project into your brain videos or passages about lincoln’s assassination as if it were memory

James Lien
that sounds like some skynet shit
then your doing teh whol controversy of

Kevin Lam
and to elaborate on the second device, it doesn’t just determine what you’re gonna do, but it’ll know what you want to know according to patterns in the brain

James Lien
humans as humans and not machines

Kevin Lam
is that what I’m doing?

James Lien
part of human beings is to learn right
blahb blah existence speil

Kevin Lam
yeah
it’ll give humans a kind of fake memory

James Lien
have u been watching sci fi movies
is this for a paper

Kevin Lam
no, i was just thinking
i thought of that image projecting brain device a few days ago
and lately i’ve been thinking of how technology could make things even easier
and that can be accomplished by skipping steps
the step of you telling the computer what to do, and instead integrating it into your own thought process

Kevin Lam
but all this stuff will bring into question a BILLION things, like your question of whether or not humans are machines
but i feel like we’re going through something like that right now, with the advancement of robots

James Lien
yeah

Kevin Lam
but yeah, that is all for now.
did it make sense?

James Lien
yes
came out of no where
i thought i did something wrong

Let me know what you think! And if you want to use this idea for any creative purposes, let me know :)
